This massive patch is now live for both PC and consoles, and let’s just say—it’s a game-changer. Whether you’re an endgame grinder or a casual explorer, this update has something for everyone. Let’s break it down in true New York style.
The new Patch of Exile 2 update is live! It was deployed today, January 17th, and is ready for download. The file size, however, is currently unknown.
Endgame Just Leveled Up
Endgame tweaks are the highlight of this update, and they’re as exciting as a late-night slice from Joe’s Pizza. Here’s the lowdown:
- New Map Areas: Say hello to Alpine Ridge, Bluff, Mesa, and Sinking Spire. These Tower Map additions bring fresh challenges and rewards. Plus, the revamped Lost Towers Map is ready for you to dive in.
- Arbiter of Ash Boss Fight Revamp: You now get up to five respawn attempts for this fiery showdown. Just don’t leave the map, or it’s game over. Bonus: The Arbiter is now less likely to target your minions, so build those summons with confidence.
- Better Boss Visibility: Citadels are easier to spot on your endgame map, and you can now hover over maps to see their biomes. No more guesswork—just pure strategy.
- Checkpoint System: Dying mid-map? No biggie. Checkpoints are here to ease the pain.
More Monsters, More Loot, More Fun
Grinding for gear? Update 1.012 delivers on all fronts. Some maps now boast double the monsters, extra rare chests, and improved odds for juicy content like Essences and Strongboxes. Oh, and Untainted Paradise? It’s packed with monsters, magic, and loot like never before. Time to grab that legendary drop you’ve been dreaming of.
Path of Exile 2 Update 1.012 | Patch Notes 0.1.1
Endgame Changes
- Added 4 new Tower Map areas: Alpine Ridge, Bluff, Mesa, and Sinking Spire.
- The Lost Towers Map area has also been revamped.
- To address the problem of only having one attempt at the Arbiter of Ash Boss fight, you will now have up to five respawn attempts at this fight. Respawns can only be triggered by the person who put in the keys, and everyone in your party will be respawned at the same time. Leaving the Map still forfeits your attempt so you’ll still need to fight the boss with the build you walked into the Map with. Higher difficulties of the Boss will lower the number of respawn attempts you receive. We’ll be looking to add respawn attempts to other Pinnacle content over time.
- The Arbiter of Ash can no longer be interrupted during his falling flame seed skill. His flaming gale skill can no longer be blocked.
- The Arbiter of Ash Boss is now invulnerable for longer during its emergence and now takes significantly reduced damage while emerging.
- The Arbiter of Ash is now way less likely to target minions when using his sword, which could prevent some of their skills being used.
- Added checkpoints to Map areas.
- Map areas now contain a minimum of 3 Rare Monsters.
- Citadels can now appear closer to the Ziggurat Refuge.
- Improved the visibility of Citadels on the Endgame Map.
- Maps now display their Biome when hovered in the Atlas UI.
- Added the new Overseer’s Precursor Tablet, a currency item which can be placed in completed Towers to add Map Bosses to valid Maps in radius. These tablets drop from Map Bosses, and can roll exclusive modifiers that affect Map Bosses.
Skill Changes Overview
Supercharged Slam
- Successive aftershocks now gain +0.5 meters to radius, capped at 3 meters. (Previously, this mechanic had no cap.)
Scavenged Plating
- Stack generation now scales with enemy rarity:
- Normal enemies: 1 stack
- Magic enemies: 2 stacks
- Rare enemies: 5 stacks
- Unique enemies: 10 stacks
Greater Lightning Bolt
- The skill granted by the Choir of the Storm Unique Amulet has been renamed from Lightning Bolt to Greater Lightning Bolt, distinguishing it from the version granted by Staves.
- Critical Hits Rule: Triggered Greater Lightning Bolts can no longer trigger additional Greater Lightning Bolts if the initial one lands a critical hit.
- Damage Boost: Greater Lightning Bolt now delivers approximately 3.5x more base Lightning Damage compared to the original Lightning Bolt skill.
Temporalis Unique Body Armour
- The cooldown reduction mechanic now has a hard cap: no skill cooldown can drop below 100ms.
Meta Gems
- Skills socketed within Meta Gem sockets can no longer gain energy.
Vine Arrow
- Updated description explicitly states that the skill hits enemies upon landing, ensuring clarity.
Pain Offering
- The Aura tag has been removed for consistency, as the skill itself does not directly create an aura. Instead, the aura is generated by the summoned minion.
This list of adjustments is just the tip of the iceberg—the sheer number of changes in this update is absolutely massive. We’ve highlighted only a fraction of the updates here.
