The main quest “Whom The Bells Toll” in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 presents a serious challenge! You have to reach Thomas, find him, and heal him (Medicine for Thomas). This section is really tough and requires a lot of patience and stealth. That’s why we want to show you how we managed to do it—how we found Thomas without being detected and how to get the medicine he needs.
Get to Thomas – Where is he?
There are multiple ways to get to Thomas, as always. We followed Kolda’s hint, which suggests that you can access the Maiden’s Tower by climbing into the well in the courtyard. That was our first step—we climbed into the well.
From there, you have to find a way into the prison. In the left cell, you’ll find Hans Capon locked up. Talk to him and ask him to distract the guard in the adjacent room.
Once the conversation is over, hide in the opposite cell and wait for Hans Capon to catch the guard’s attention. When the moment is right, rush into the room and quickly head up the stairs!
Your goal is to keep climbing up until you reach the attic. From there, you can enter the Maiden’s Tower and reach Thomas. Depending on how long you take and what happens along the way, you might encounter one or two guards that you need to distract. Also, keep an eye out for the housemaids—if they see you, it’s over!
Medicine for Thomas – Find out what medicine he needs
Once you reach the tower, the story continues. To save Hans Capon from the gallows, you must heal Thomas, who is severely ill with a high fever. In order to relieve Capon from his burden, we need to find medicine for Thomas—specifically, a Fever Tonic.
But where do you find the Fever Tonic? Where do I get the medicine for Thomas?
You need to climb back down the tower, but be careful—there’s a guard on the stairs! In our case, the guard was a bit buggy and didn’t react when we threw a stone, so we had to sneak up really close to distract him.
Once you reach the storage room downstairs, just walk through and exit into the courtyard. Keep going straight ahead until you reach the wooden stairs on the right, where a guard is likely standing. You need to get past him and go through the door behind him. Enter the room, and don’t worry—the guard won’t care.
At the far end of the room, you’ll see a small white wall with something placed on it—“Dried Trout”. Pick it up!
Get some lockpicks
Now comes an important step: You need a lockpick! You won’t be able to make the medicine later without one. Since you’re now in the courtyard, where you can move around freely, this is the perfect time to find one.
One way to do this is by heading to the gallows area, where you’ll find someone asking you to sharpen his axe—completing this will earn you 2 Groschen. You can also pickpocket people or complete a task for the blacksmith, which will lead you to Kabat, who sells lockpicks.
Update: At the blacksmith’s, we also found a red jug—inside, there’s a lockpick and 6 groschen.
Once you have a lockpick, head back to the wooden stairs where you grabbed the fish. This time, go up the stairs.
Inside the next room, there’s a soldier standing there. Don’t panic! Talk to him, and you’ll find out that he’s hungry. Luckily, you just picked up the Dried Trout! Give it to him, and while he’s distracted, sneak past him and head up the stairs.
But it doesn’t have to be this fish! Maybe he’ll accept other food you’ve found or even stolen somewhere!
Once again, the goal is to reach the top without being seen!
Craft the Fever Tonicum
At the top, go through the back-right door and talk to Lady Katherine. It doesn’t seem to matter what you say—she won’t help you.
This is where your lockpick comes in handy! Pick the lock on the wooden chest to get the necessary materials. Then, take the Physician’s Journal from the shelf—it contains the exact recipe for the Fever Tonic.
The recipe instructs you to:
- Add WATER to the cauldron.
- Toss in two handfuls of FEVERFEW.
- Lower the CAULDRON and bring it to a boil.
- Boil it for two full turns of the hourglass.
- Grind Elderberry Leaves in the mortar.
- Add the crushed Elderberry Leaves to the cauldron.
- Toss in two handfuls of GINGER.
- Pour the mixture into a vial.
That’s it! The Fever Tonic is ready! Now, head back and give it to Thomas so he can recover and save Hans Capon!
